Rawalpindi/Peshawar: The return of Afghan refugees continues after the deadline set by the government expired, and 944 foreign families consisting of 6,700 people have been deported since April 1.
According to immigration sources, the deported foreigners were brought to the Landi Kotal transit camp from different cities of the country and were deported via the Torkham border after necessary action.
The deported families include 2874 men, 1755 women and 2071 children.
According to immigration sources, a total of 70494 Afghan families returned to Afghanistan from September 17, 2023 to March 31, 2025, these Afghan families consisted of a total of 469159 people.
On the other hand, a police crackdown is underway against illegal foreigners and Afghan residents in Rawalpindi. Such people are being rounded up for not having proof of residence or documents, including Afghan citizen card holders and expired visas.
A total of 353 Afghan residents have been detained across the district since April 1 and shifted to hoarding centers.
119 Afghan citizens holding Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) were detained and 234 Afghans were detained for not having proof of residence or for not being able to produce documents. No Afghan has been arrested in the visa expiry category so far.
According to sources, all 353 Afghans who were detained were shifted to the hoarding center Golra Mor. Rawalpindi Police has issued a regular security plan for the security of the hoarding center near Golra Mor.
On the strict orders of CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani, police officers and personnel are performing security duty in three shifts at the Golra Mor hoarding center. No Afghan is allowed to carry a mobile phone in the hoarding center.
A total of 117 Afghans were detained and shifted to the hoarding center from Rawal Division, which includes police stations in Rawalpindi city. 147 Afghans were taken into custody from the police stations of Potohar Division, which includes cantonments and surrounding police stations, and shifted to the hoarding center.
A total of 89 Afghans were taken into custody from the Saddar Division, which includes police stations in rural and suburban areas, and shifted to the hoarding center.
According to sources, Afghans holding POR cards or proof of residence are not being taken into custody at the current stage. It has been decided to deport Afghans who are or have been involved in crimes or if any member of their family is involved in crimes.
The crackdown against illegal foreigners and Afghans will continue. Police teams are conducting operations in different areas.
After detailed scrutiny at the hoarding center, people holding Afghan citizen cards and illegal residence will be sent to Afghanistan from a temporary camp.
