According to foreign media reports, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziauddin Rahman on Monday ordered the seizure of Shakib Al Hasan's property in the cheque bounce case.

Shakib had set up a shrimp farm in Satkhira, Bangladesh in 2016, which has been inactive since 2021. The said cheques were for repayment of a loan taken from the bank by Shakib's company, but the cheques bounced due to insufficient funds.

According to the report, in October 2024, the Bangladeshi bank had issued a legal notice on the issue of bounced cheques and later filed a case against Shakib and 3 other officials of his company on December 24.

In January, the court had issued an arrest warrant for Shakib in this case.

It may be recalled that Shakib Al Hasan is out of Bangladesh after receiving death threats due to political unrest and his association with the Awami League.

He is also named in the case of the murder of a young man during anti-government protests last year.
